The 720,000 Christian
Jesus taught a lesson in the Bible in the book of Matthew 25:14-30. The story is referred to as the “Parable of the Talents.” It’s a lesson of a wealthy king who leaves eight talents with three different people and told them to invest them while he was gone, and that when he returns he will expect an increase of these investment loans he’s given to these three individuals.
Historians have estimated that a talent was valued around $720,000 of our money system today. When one person received five talents, it was equal to $3,600,000. The second was given two talents equal to $1,440,000. And the third was given one talent equal to $720,000.
Their mission was to invest those talents well over a period of time.
One day the owner of the talents returned and asked for an accounting from each. The one that had five talents had invested wisely and doubled his worth to 10. The second had also doubled the two talents to four. But the third had only kept the one talent, not doing anything with it, not even investing to at least to earn some interest for the owner.
So the third was sent away never to return, and that talent was given to the other two to continue investing.
This is actually for us. God gives us each abilities and resources, at least to the tune of $720,000. And that’s where way too many stay, investing for themselves into their own kingdom. They never realize that someday there will be an accounting they have to give.
It says in Romans 14:12 that Jesus is the one who will be the returning owner, and He’s going to have a book opened. It says in Revelation 20:12 that it will show all your accounts of what you’ve done for His kingdom work or your own. You will be one of these three types of people, and from there you will receive the outcome of the accounting- which will be accurate to the penny.
