Favored of God but Not Ready
There is a great account in the Bible of a man destined to become a king and great leader, but who wasn’t ready to take that position until later.
Most of us have heard of the story of David and Goliath. It’s been told in millions of Sunday school classes and preached from as many pulpits on Sunday mornings.
This is an amazing account of God’s power working through such a small boy against a man of war almost twice as big. Yet the boy David prevails and has been chosen to be the new leader of Israel, but he must wait nearly 15 years before it is fulfilled.
This should encourage us, too. Though we feel we’re chosen for a greater purpose (and we are), sometimes there is a waiting period. Others may try to force us to become, too quickly, what we are to become later. But God has set a special training period (an allotment of time) that we need to grow into that position.
Only we and God can make the timetable come about as we let God prepare and set in order those things that will strengthen our position for later purposes. For God not only sees the battle we will have to fight today- or the Goliaths we may have to face tomorrow- but God sees every situation any of us will ever face until the end. Only God knows how to prepare and promote us for all things to come.
