Your True Motives Are Known

Everyone does something for a reason. Each person is, at times, doing certain things for certain reasons, and no matter the deed done, God always knows exactly why you truly do it.

King David, in the Bible, tells us of one such man. He, at his highest position in life, was the general of the king’s army, a place that would be as close to the king as he could be without being the king’s own son.

Joab was such a man. His accomplishments for the kingdom were massive. His possessions were many. Joab looked like a man as loyal to the kingdom as anyone.

But what looks good on the outside, wasn’t so good on the inside. For in reality, this great-looking general did just what he wanted to do when anyone forced his position or his opinion. He killed two other military leaders who threatened his place of authority, against the king’s wishes. He even schemed and killed one of the king’s sons, who was rebellious. He set up and had an innocent man killed.

There was no one so bold for the kingdom, or so it seemed. Joab’s main concern was for his own kingdom; in reality, and it did cost him his life after many years of deception. But most of all, it cost him his soul.

This story repeats itself over and over every day in other forms by other people. So many people look good with their actions, even for God’s Kingdom. But their hearts have dark sides to them. Why they do what they do will also, in the end, cost them their own eternal soul.

Examine your own life. Just why do you really do the things that you are doing?
