When Wisdom is Death

Many people assure us that Wisdom is of great value. The Bible validates that assumption in the book of Proverbs, but the meaning of Wisdom in the Bible is quite different from mankind’s interpretation.

Many of us are deceived into believing that because we are Christians, wisdom and understanding is a gift from God. In Romans 8, we are told of the spirit and flesh. We need to understand that all wisdom in making decisions of the flesh leads to death. Those decisions are actually at odds with God because His wisdom is Spirit-led; not of the flesh.

Proverbs 8:8 sums it up: “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

We watch people on TV, listen to the radio, and read in the paper how people construct this building or start this project and talk about how this is going to improve the community.

But whose wisdom are they using? Don’t they know only the things built for the kingdom of God will last? In the time we have left on earth, we need to ask ourselves why and who really benefits from all of our efforts to do something constructive?

Is God going to be glorified in this project, or is it going forward on fleshly wisdom - which is surely to end in death?
