Peace Be Still
You will find a parable Jesus taught in the gospel of a time when He and His disciples, as well as others, were crossing the Sea of Galilee. During their crossing, the Bible says a great windstorm arose and the waves beat into the boat, so much it was even filling with water.
Now, Jesus was in the stern asleep on a pillow, and so the crew awoke Him; instead of asking for help or advice, they asked, “Do you not care that we are perishing?” So Jesus got up, and it says He rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace be still.” But, then He said to the people, “Why are you so fearful, how is it that you have no faith?” You can read this account in Mark 4:27-41.
My thought is, why do so many people do the same? We know this life on earth will not always be peaceful.
These are trying times, but how many of us make matters worse, especially those that call themselves Christians? We freak out instead of trusting the God who created the universe.
I don’t believe Jesus ever intended for Christians to worry so much as they do, for it’s the Christian that should have a grasp of the truth when storms of life arise; when they do, a Christian should be able to look at that storm differently so those that don’t believe in Christ see a peace, even in the midst of a storm.
God has given us His word for pure truth. He is the most powerful force in the universe. I believe, as well as any Christian should, that He will keep us and help you to show others the peace people need to believe in. The more you dig into God’s Word and believe it, the easier you also can say “peace be still” to the storm.
