Our Desire vs God's Desire

Is it wrong to want to have a nice house or enjoy some of the pleasures of life?

No, I don’t believe so.

God is not a harsh taskmaster requiring that we don’t get to enjoy this life to an extent. You see, it’s mainly about why we want what we want and how we go about getting what we want that is important. The things that keep us from God become a problem because we allow them to get out of order. God is fair and helps us to set our priorities in order to enjoy all areas of our lives.

It goes back to where the Pharisees ask Jesus if it is lawful to pay taxes to Caesar.

Jesus answered, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and give to God what is God’s.”

The same applies to us today. We need to give to God what belongs to Him, and He has a way of setting things in order to get the most for our money, and we are able to choose the things that will bring the most joy and satisfaction.

It is not wrong to have desires, but it is wrong for us to let those desires rule our lives. Many people are unhappy at times because they are trying to make their own happiness. God understands exactly what will fill every desire and void that we have.

Wanting nice things and enjoying life is not a problem at all for God. He just wants you to keep your perspectives in order. He wants you to be concerned about those areas of life so that when you step from this life into an eternal one, you will be able to enter as His child.

Be a child who follows God’s desirable ways, and not one of those who does his own thing by living life his own way, only to find that he has lost his path to true eternal peace.
