All Words Do Matter

“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of Judgment.”

“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

The Bible says this to us in the book of Matthew, and these are very powerful words. Think about it: we have to give an account. We have to answer to God for the idle words we speak while here on earth.

What’s an idle word? Well, it could be speaking lies, gossip, taking God’s words out of context, telling jokes that are off color, or we could say words that are rude. What about speaking against those in authority when we’ve been told to pray for them? You see, idle words can cover many things.

I believe this is one of the major reasons why peoples’ prayer lives ar not as effective as they could be, simply because they pollute their talk too often and it therefore hinders their walk with God. God does not tolerate this kind of talk from His children, just like a parent shouldn’t.

This is a big reason we need a daily examination of our lives, spiritually speaking; to check not only our activities, but also our words. Have they fallen into that category of idle words that God says we are going to answer for? We all need to check ourselves at the end of everyday and remember what we’ve said, then ask for God’s forgiveness and start over and try to do better the next day when selecting the words we choose to use.

There is going to be a lot of embarrassments for some in the end, and loss of rewards, depending on where God has drawn the line in these words we say. We could reap horrible results for eternity. Choose carefully the words you use today.
