Will You Crawl Through a Window?
There was a middle aged pastor that had been called on by God to change from his successful secular career to take a small group. It slowly grew. After a few years, the pastor felt God urging him to take over an old abandoned church building- more than a hundred and twenty five years old.
The pastor went to the building. It was boarded up, yet he found a window knocked out so he crawled through into a dirty rundown place. It was full of pigeons, holes in the roof, debris everywhere. But as he stood on the platform of that dusty old floor, he seemed to hear God say, “I’ll help you build and supply all you need. People will come from as far as 100 miles each week just to be here.”
The pastor told his group of elders about the building and that he knew God had said they were to do it. The elders were reluctant but moved on to see what would happen. They were able to purchase the building for $1.00 from the city.
The work began, and one day a woodworker showed up that hated Christianity. To everyone’s shock, he said he could fix much of the woodwork- though he never came to a service ever at that church. A few weeks later, a steel worker came but he also never visited that church. But he volunteered to do all the metal work, furnish the metal, and restraighten the walls.
Others came and helped, and within only a few months the church was opened and restored to its original look. People came, and over the next years more people came every week as far as 100 miles away to that little Canadian town. The church grew, built a Christian school, and several other extended ministries from missions to training evangelists.
What if the pastor had never crawled through the window? What if the elders had said no? What if the city would not have approved for the church to buy the building?
But God approved; God supplied; God blessed and God expanded its effectiveness. He still does today if you’ll put your trust in Him.
