The Stewardship of Wealth
When you mention wealth, the first thought you have is “lots of money,” and it is a main ingredient of this category. But wealth can encompass other areas, like good health and strength. There’s a lot to be said here, especially when one who used to have these things no longer does. If you could only have health and strength, it would be worth a lot.
Wealth can also come from relationships. People make the world go ‘round, and people do need each other. A man or woman surrounded by trusted and loyal friends or family is invaluable, especially through tough times.
A person can feel wealthy at times when all is well, as you have your needs met and can watch your children and their children grow. And at the top probably is people who have made or control, in some form, larger amounts of money.
The Bible speaks of wealth in a different form. 3 John 1 says, “Prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” And Proverbs 19:4 mentions you’ll have many friends from wealth- but just how true are they? God doesn’t at all mind if we’re wealthy, but He definitely does mind our stewardship of wealth.
Many people invest way too much in homes, property, and things for the benefit of their comforts. And some may need to think about this: Luke 18:25 reminds us that it is hard for a rich man to enter heaven, saying it would be easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle. That, by the way, is a gate to someone’s fine property. It’s not that the rich or “the wealthy” can’t enter. It means it’s harder for them if they mismanage wealth. Don’t let your bad stewardship here on earth keep you out of the gate that opens to heaven.
