Sowing in Fallow Ground

Any farmer, gardener or nursery worker knows that you have to prepare the soil before the seed is planted. The farmer plows, the gardener tills, and the nursery worker turns the soil to get it ready for the seed.

There is also a process the planter needs to know about the crop they are going to yield. Some seeds can be broadcasted on top of the ground, others have to be barely covered, and some have to be placed deep in the soil.

Many of us have seen little growth in our Christian walk because we didn’t take the time to invest in tilling the areas of our lives and planting rightly. We needlessly cast out seed with little results.

In Hosea 10:12, God says, “Sow with a view of righteousness, reap in accordance with kindness, break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord.”

There are many hard places that have crept into our hearts where no seeds will grow. Maybe they are wounds of “un-forgiveness” or scars from devastating situations and from hard times over the years.

To be the people God wants us to be, we have to break up those hard fallow grounds, letting God sow deep good seeds that will produce good results.

These are seeds in good soil that will bring the change and growth of peace, purpose and righteousness we all need.
